Pregnancy and Prenatal Care
~Working with the woman to promote a healthy pregnancy through home visits
~Referrals, such as for ultrasound or for other healthcare providers
~Monitoring and assessment of mother and baby’s health
~On call to attend your birth from 36.5 weeks gestation up to 42 weeks, or beyond
~Continuous labor and birth care monitoring mother and baby wellbeing
~Monitoring of vitals such as heart rate, blood pressure and respirations
~Medication if indicated such as hydration IV, antibiotics, etc.
~Management of complications and emergencies
~Supporting the parents physically and mentally
~Newborn assessment and care, including head to toe physical exam
~Give medications as indicated or desired such as e.g. vitamin K, antibiotic eye ointment
~Postpartum visits occur at 24 hours after birth, on day 3 after birth and then on weeks 1, 2, 4 and 6.
~Evaluate physical recovery of mother
~Support mental and emotional well-being of new parents
~Discuss concerns about mother or baby
~Helping mothers succeed in their breastfeeding goals
~Assessing newborn growth and overall health
~Newborn screenings including; congenital heart defects, jaundice, hearing and metabolic (also known as PKU or newborn heel prick).
